Whoa There…

So coach, you’re just gonna dump your rules for living on us like that!!!??  And we should just abide by them blindly? I hear you say (or something shorter and more explicit!!). And you’d be right. As a coach, its not my role to impose my rules on you. The whole point of the coaching process is for you, the client, to shape and mould your own future. You set your own goals, and ultimately you are the one who is responsible for achieving them. In your world, your reality, your goals are unique to you. So if you want the latest phone, or shiny new car (despite what some bloke on the internet thinks), don’t just dream and procrastinate. Make it a reality.

So you have a goal.  And to some it may seem far fetched, and a fantasy.  Yet you believe it’s achievable. So then that is all that matters. Set you plan in progress. It has to be concrete, clear, and achievable. You have to plan the steps out step by step. Believe me, it helps to make the dream seem more of a reality when you can trace your progress. And have a realistic time frame. Be specific, try to get down to weeks, and days for big projects, rather than ‘sometime next year’ for example. Try not to be deterred by any barriers that block your way to your goal. Stop, review your progress, re-evaluate your options, and move on. The way to the end goal is rarely straightforward, a dead end is not The End. Ok, on to the next part…

What We Need

We often think we need the world. But what do we really need, as opposed to what we crave?

Knowledge, wisdom, understanding. Food, clothing and shelter. Love, peace, and happiness.  Think about it… Outside of this what else could you really need? Cars, money, expensive booze?  The latest gadgets, dazzling jewelry,  the most twitter followers?  At some stage in life we all wanted these material things, we probably still do. The question is, do these things bring lasting contentment? When you have the latest phone, it won’t be the latest phone for too long. Same applies to that shiny new car. There is always going to be someone richer than you, with more expensive, more exclusive booze. Their jewelry will be more shiny, bigger, and more outrageous!! You’ll always be chasing a dream.

If we stick to our needs, we are likely to experience more long term contentment. There will be no need to compare ourselves to others, or worry about what others think about us. When we focus on our needs, build our selves up without external influence, we attain the ultimate satisfaction. Feed your desire for knowledge and wisdom. Open your mind to a greater understanding of yourself, and the world around you. Ensure you have the basics, food, clothing, shelter. Free yourself to love, and be loved. Live in peace, and happiness will surely follow.

Now, reading this, you may think this has a spiritual slant. I assure you it doesn’t, but if faith and spirituality can help you to attain happiness, then go for it. The most wonderful thing about the human race is our individuality. So everybody treads their own path. Find yours by looking inside yourself. You won’t find directions in another person’s path. You must forge your own way.
